Sonya Cristy works for Queensland Transport'sIndustry Capability Branch, which was formed in 2006 to specifically address the critical skills and labour shortage within the Transport & Logistics (T&L) industry. The Industry Capability Branch works in partnership with over 600 stakeholders from the road, rail, sea and air sectors, educating employers and employees about the exciting and rewarding opportunities available to them in the T&L workplace. Sonya has had a diverse career in both the private and public sector with over 15 years experience in project management, human resources, finance, customer service management, sales, and office management. She is very enthusiastic about working as part of the Experienced Pays team and is keen to build awareness of age-friendly strategies throughout the T&L industry.

Diane Baillie is working with the Australian Industry Group (Ai Group). Her role is to raise awareness among the membership base of Ai Group about age-friendly work practices which can provide a solution to skills and labour shortages. She has worked on previous government programs aimed at addressing skills and labour shortages, especially in regional locations within Australia. Diane also has several years experience as an employer, managing a not-for-profit community organisation. Therefore, she has a strong understanding of the needs of employers and has a strong belief in the benefits of age-friendly work policies and practices

Matthew Patten has been seconded to the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU) part of his role is as an Experience Pays Awareness Strategy Liaison Officer to further the aims of the Queensland Skills Plan. He has had seven years experience working in the Vocational Education and Training sector in a variety of roles. Matthew is working with employee groups to encourage older workers to seek flexibility in the workplace and to make older workers aware of the possibilities when working beyond retirement. He enjoys the challenge of being part of the Experience Pays team and is working to raise awareness in the community about the challenges we face with an ageing population and promote the value of older workers in the workforce.

Bob Overall is working with the Australian Workers’ Union and has 30 years experience representing the civil, general construction and engineering industries. Bob has worked with many employer and employee groups over the years, communicating at many levels to help achieve fair and equitable outcomes.

Geoff Bush is working with the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) and brings to the campaign an established career in financial services, retail and commerce banking, and human resources. Since 2001 Geoff has been working with the Local Government Association to facilitate the State Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative and its predecessor the Breaking the Unemployment Cycle initiative’s apprenticeship and training programs throughout the State. As an Experience Pays Awareness Strategy Industry Liaison Officer Geoff will continue to work with Queensland ’s local governments encouraging them to adopt age-friendly work practices.

Sandra Perry works within the National Retail Association (NRA) assisting employers in the retail industry to develop age-friendly employment practices. She has had 20 years experience in the Hospitality/Service Industry. Prior to joining the Experience Pays team, Sandra was a workplace trainer, training in Retail, Hospitality and Frontline Management. She is now working with employers to raise their awareness of the labour supply shortfalls and help them to develop strategies for effective workforce management including developing age-friendly workplaces.

Patricia Thorpe works in the Queensland Government’s Office of the Public Service Commissioner (OPSC). Patricia is the Experience Pays Awareness Strategy Industry Liaison Officer for the Queensland Public Service and is assisting Public Sector agencies to identify their ageing workforce challenges and implement responses. Patricia is building on the valuable work already being done in agencies, and complementing the resources on workforce planning, demographics and work/life balance.

Chris Fardon is from the Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) the peak union body for Queensland representing 44 affiliated unions. Chris was previously a Production Co-Ordinator for Queensland University of Technology’s in-house Television Production Unit. A lifelong Unionist Chris has most recently been an active member of the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) and has worked as a Delegate Organiser secondered to the Queensland Public Sector Union on several occasions. Chris has extensive experience in television and live entertainment events and is heavily involved in the planning of the 2008 Labour Day Celebrations. Chris aims to equip workers with the skills they need to to make informed decisions concerning their current and future working arrangements.
