New Wiring Rules

New Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules AS/NZS 3000:2007 were developed by Standards Australia and took effect in Queensland from 1 June 2008.

All licensed electrical workers in Queensland must comply with the Wiring Rules as stipulated by section 66 of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2002.

About the information sessions

The Electrical Safety Office (ESO), in partnership with the Electrical and Communications Association (ECA), conducted free information seminars on the new Wiring Rules, throughout Queensland between January and July 2008.

The seminars ran approximately two hours and provided licensed electrical contractors and licensed electrical workers with an overview of key aspects of the new Wiring Rules, in particular the changes from the 2000 version of the Standard. The seminars also covered managing the risks associated with live work, and the ECA outlined their new products and services.

The slides and speaking notes (PPT, 1 MB) used at the seminar are available for download. This is to enable seminar attendees to report to work mates who did not attend, on a "train-the-trainer" basis.
